Jiu-Jitsu is a method of movement that combines martial arts, self-defense, and combat sport into one discipline. It originated in Japan as a strategy for weaker opponents to defend themselves against sword-equipped warriors, then was refined in Rio de Janeiro during the 1920s. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) combines the art of movement with defense tactics that can be applied to performance in various sports, strength conditioning, balance, and overall body awareness. It’s great for people of all ages and physical abilities!

Along with providing a valuable full-body workout, BJJ can help build life skills off the mat. This practice is as much mental as it is physical. Self-discipline, courage, perseverance, critical thinking, respect, and humility can all be learned and improved through BJJ. The training teaches stamina and reasoning, making this martial art a workout for both your body and mind.

At Monkey Bar Gym, we offer BJJ classes for all levels and ages. We emphasize Sport Jiu-Jitsu, which is competitive in nature but can be learned in a non-competitive format as well. Our classes are non-competitive, encouraging, and welcoming to everyone. In our gym you won’t only receive a kick-butt workout, but you’ll be part of a supportive community. BJJ Youth: Tuesday – Thursday 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. / Saturday 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.

BJJ All Levels: Monday 7:00 – 7:30 p.m. / Wednesday 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. / Friday 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.

BJJ Advanced: Monday 6:30 – 7:00 p.m. / Tuesday & Thursday 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

BJJ Live Training: Monday – Thursday 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.
